Mastodon Seniors Fall In Final Home Game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In the final home game in the Gates Sports Center for seniors Mur Hagerman, Hillary Moore, Haley Seibert, the IPFW women's basketball team fell to North Dakota State 72-66. It was also IPFW's 8th annual Pink Out game, honoring those who have battled breast cancer, benefiting the Vera Bradley Foundation.
Seibert led the 'Dons with 16 points, three assists, and two steals. Kamilah Carter and Rachel Rinehart each finished with 10 points on the day. Allyson Bunch dropped in nine points, while Keanna Gary and KeShyra McCarver each added six.
Moore led all players with nine rebounds to go along with four points. Hagerman finished with five points and four rebounds.
IPFW opened the game scoring seven straight points to jump out to an early 12-2 lead four minutes in. NDSU battled its way back to within two, 18-16, with 7:54 left in the half.
Seibert celebrated her final home game by knocking down a three at the 7:24 mark to propel the Mastodons on a 12-0 run and push their lead back to double-digits. The Bison closed out the final minutes with a 7-3 advantage, but it was Carter scoring the final basket of the half to give the 'Dons a 33-23 lead at the break.
Hagerman knocked down the first IPFW shot of the second half, however from there, the Mastodons went 0-14 from the field in 11 minutes of play. North Dakota State began the second half with a 13-3 run, tying the game 36-36 five minutes in. After a pair of free throws from McCarver, the Bison scored the next five points as the 'Dons trailed for the first time in the game with 10:01 left.
Bunch ended the Mastodon drought with a three at the 8:04 mark as the 'Dons trailed 48-43. Down the stretch, both sides made five-point runs, as IPFW chipped away at the deficit. Bunch connected on three free throws to close the gap to two, 65-63, with 1:36 left. NDSU knocked down a three with 16 seconds left, before Seibert answered with a three of her own with 11.3 left on the clock.
The Bison made four free throws in the final 10 seconds, as IPFW was unable to pull off the late comeback.
On the afternoon, the Mastodons shot 19-of-59 (32.2%) from the field and 10-of-29 (34.5%) beyond the arc. As a team the 'Dons shot a season-high 94.7 percent, 18-of-19, at the free throw line.
IPFW closes out the regular season with a two-game road trip beginning at Omaha on February 26 for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
