
Women's Tennis Closes Regular Season on Six-Match Win Streak

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team has closed the 2015 regular season on a six-match win streak, including a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, winning 5-2 over IUPUI and 7-0 over Indiana Tech.
Behind the victory over IUPUI, the Mastodons have clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Summit League Championships, hosted by IPFW. The Mastodons ended the 2015 regular season with a 23-7 overall record, and a 6-1 mark in Summit League play.
In the opener against IUPUI, the Mastodons swept the doubles point, starting with an 8-1 win by Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino at No. 2 pairs. Mayu Sato and Ella Norgren followed with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, giving IPFW the doubles point. Sara Sherif and Alina Schibol closed the door on any doubles wins from the Jaguars with an 8-1 win at No. 3 pairs, giving the Mastodons the sweep.
Sherif opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, before Sato closed out her second consecutive undefeated Summit League season with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1, and putting IPFW ahead 3-0. Trevino gave the Mastodons the win and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.Â
Sofia Sorokina picked up IPFW's final match win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, as the Mastodons fell at No. 6 and No. 3 singles to finish out the opening match.
In the afternoon finale, a 7-0 sweep of the Indiana Tech Warriors, the Mastodons surrendered just 12 games for the entire match, with four of those coming in doubles matches. Sato and Norgren battled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 pairs, before Emily Richardson and Sorokina won 8-1 at No. 3 pairs. Schibol and Sherif won 8-2 to close out a second consecutive doubles sweep by IPFW.
Richardson was the first singles match to close, as the senior won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles before Sorokina also won 6-0, 6-0, putting IPFW ahead 2-0. Norgren confirmed the IPFW win by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 5 singles.Â
Schibol won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, as Sherif picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3. Sato closed the door on the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
