FARGO, N.D. - The 2015 season came to a close for the IPFW softball team as the Mastodons fell to IUPUI in the opening round of the Summit League Championship 13-0. The 'Dons end their season 3-45.
The Mastodons best chance for a run came in the top of the first. Taylor Gordy Prescott led off the game with a walk and after a sacrifice bunt, Miranda Marion also drew a walk to put runners on first and second. However, the 'Dons were unable to push a run across as the next two batters were retired.
The Jaguars took the lead early, scoring five times in the bottom of the first, all coming with less than two outs. IUPUI added four runs in the second, including a three-run home run by Roni Patterson. The Jags scored four more times in the fourth.
The 'Dons were unable to extend the game in their final at-bat. In the fifth, Whitney Ennis hit a line drive back up the middle but the IUPUI pitcher was able to snag it. Lindsay Burke drew a walk, but after a fielder's choice, the final out was recorded, ending the Mastodon's season.
Sarah Lazarowich took the loss for IPFW, lasting three innings and allowing eight earned runs on eight hits. Kaitlyn Biere came on for the final inning and surrendered two runs on three hits.
Becca Beier was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Mastodons.
