COACHES QUOTES
"We're excited to have the soccer festival back at Hefner," head coach Mike Harper said. "Shindigz has been a big part in the soccer community around Fort Wayne and it's always a pleasure to be a part of it. We have a tough matchup against Michigan State, but it'll be a great match to measure how far we've come this offseason.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW enters the match coming off a 3-0 shutout of crosstown rivals Indiana Tech in the opening exhibition of the season. Andy O'Donoghue opened the scoring for the 'Dons with a header in the 23rd minute of play, following a pass from Jose Rodriguez on the right side.
The Blue and White put the match away with a scoring surge in the second half as Jacob Murphy and Austin West each found the back of the net in the 69th and 71st minute, respectively.
Raphael Kotzock and Jorge Trujillo combined for the shutout, each making two stops in net.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Michigan State enters the first match of the year following a run to the Elite Eight last season. The third-seeded Spartans fell to Providence, 3-2, with a trip to the College Cup on the Line. Additionally, the Spartans appeared in the Big 10 semifinals last year, before dropping a scoreless match to Maryland in penalty kicks, 3-2. MSU finished the year 12-5-6 and was ranked as high as seventh nationally.
LAST MEETING
The Mastodons struggled against Michigan State in the only previous meeting on September 7, 2003. Peter Hachaj managed 12 saves against the Spartans, while the 'Dons fired a total of nine shots. Michigan State would go on to take the match 3-0 in Fort Wayne.
