Dunning Has Career Day in Loss to Cardinals
8/30/2015 7:14:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Behind a career-high 10 saves from sophomore goalkeeper Kiley Dunning - just the fourth time since 2010 that a Mastodon has had 10 or more saves in a match - as IPFW fell to the Ball State Cardinals by a 3-0 final score on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Kallianne Mogler had a team-high three shot attempts, while Kelsie Carlson and Lindsay Yankasky each had one attempt in the match.
IPFW (0-4) and Ball State (3-1) battled through the first 30 minutes of action embattled in a scoreless tie. The Mastodons had an opportunity for goal in the 29th minute when the hosts were given a penalty kick attempt after a foul in the box; however, Mogler's penalty kick attempt was stopped by Ball State goalkeeper's Alyssa Heintschel's foot as she dove towards the opposite post, the stop keeping IPFW off of the board.
The Cardinals were able to reach the scoreboard 38:11 into the game when Lauren Hall's free kick snuck just inside of the right-hand post, giving the visitors their eventual game-winning goal and the 1-0 lead.
The one goal margin would stand through halftime, until the Cardinals came out firing out of the break, scoring 34 seconds into the second stanza, and adding the match's final score in the 57th minute of the contest.
The Mastodons pressured late, getting three shots and a corner kick in the final six and a half minutes of the contest, but the attacks could not find the back of the net, keeping IPFW off of the scoreboard.
Ball State out-shot the Mastodons 32-to-5 in the game, with IPFW out-saving the Cardinals 10-to-3.
IPFW returns to action on a two-match road swing, with a Friday, September 4 meeting with the Eastern Illinois Panthers (0-3-1) at 4 p.m. ET. in Charleston, Illinois, before taking on the Saint Louis Billikens at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 6.
