Groninger Leads Tournament Field After 36 Holes

NORMAL, Ill. - Jacob Groninger's second-round 3-under-par 68 propelled him atop the leaderboard of 96-player field at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of 140. Groninger paced the Mastodons who finished the day tied for fifth with scores of 301-292-593.
Played at the par-71, 6,915 yard Weibring Golf Club, host Illinois State holds a 12-stroke lead over second place Central Arkansas with rounds of 288-287-575.
After day one the 'Dons are tied with Nebraska, three-strokes behind fourth place Bradley. Groninger carded a tournament-best 11 birdies on the day, two better than anyone else. In the second round, he recorded six birdies on the front nine. Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Zach Schroeder carded rounds of 75-69-144 to sit in a tie for sixth. For the day on the par-5 holes, Schroeder led the field with a 5-under-par. Schroeder capped his opening day by recording an eagle on the par-5, 585-yard No. 6.
Drake Devereux also ended the day with an eagle on No. 2, a 536-yard par-5, finishing with rounds of 80-74-154 to end tied for 63rd. Dan Wert carded a pair of birdies in the opening round to finish in a tie for 68th place with scores of 74 -81-155. Josh Keating rounded out the team scoring in his first tournament as a Mastodon tied for 88th with rounds of 80-81-161.
The final round of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate will be a 9:30 a.m. ET shotgun start on September 14.
