Late Goals Drop Mastodons to End Winning Streak
9/13/2015 5:21:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A pair of late goals downed the IPFW men's soccer team Sunday afternoon, 2-0, to end the Mastodon's three-match winning streak. Northern Kentucky improved to 3-2-0 on the year, while IPFW fell to 3-3-0.
After playing 73 scoreless minutes, the Norse got on board with a goal from Yaw Addai. Diego Martinez sent the ball across the box to Addai, who then beat Raphael Kotzock to the right post. Addai would also score the second NKU goal 15 minutes later after receiving a deflection from the IPFW corner kick and then sneaking the ball by Kotzok to the left post during a one-on-one opportunity.
Despite giving up two goals, Kotzock played well in net for the Blue and White, making six saves during the match. Kotzock faced a flurry of shots in the closing minute of play as the Norse fired three shots in the 85th minute. After the initial stop from Kotzock, the NKU offense received the ball off deflections for the second and third shots, all within an 11 second stretch.
The Blue and White controlled most of the match, earning a 21-12 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
IPFW is back in action on Friday, September 18 at 7 p.m., when the 'Dons travel to Bowling Green.
