The opening set proved the closest battle of the night as the two teams exchanged five leads while the score was tied 11 times. Denver took the early lead before the 'Dons scored three straight to lead 4-3. The two sides exchanged points as neither team held more than a one-point lead early. With IPFW leading 11-10, the Pioneers scored four straight points to take the lead for good. The Mastodons fought back to tie the score 17-17, but were unable to regain the lead down the stretch.
Denver took the early advantage in the second set before the 'Dons battled back to hold a 9-8 lead. The Pioneers responded with the next six points to win the frame. Denver opened the final set on a 5-2 run, as the Mastodons were unable to put together a rally to overcome the early deficit.
