Volleyball Drops Opening Match of Hampton Inn Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The IPFW women's volleyball squad dropped its opening match of the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by Bowling Green, to Loyola Chicago 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-18). The 'Dons are now 1-4 on the season.
Leading the offense for the Mastodons was Sarah Heckman with seven kills on the afternoon. Natasha Medic, Somer Johnson, and Natalie Seiler each finished the match with six kills. Madison Jaqua dished out a match-high 18 assists.
Defensively, Olivia Hahn had a match-high 21 digs while Johnson and Jaqua each added eight. At the net, Nicole Rightnowar finished with a team-high three blocks, including one solo.
The 'Dons trailed early in the first set before scoring three straight points to take a 7-6 lead. With the scored tied 11-11, IPFW won seven of the next nine points to take a five-point lead. The Ramblers went on a hot streak, scoring the final 12 points to take the set.
The Mastodons took the early lead in the second set, scoring the opening three points. The two teams exchanged small runs as the score became tied 15-15. IPFW was unable to hold off another late hot streak by the Ramblers as they scored five of the final six points. The 'Dons would suffer a similar fate in the third set. With the score tied 14-14, LUC recorded 11 of the final 15 points to take the match.
IPFW returns to action tomorrow, September 5, to take on Wright State at 10 a.m. followed by host Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m. The final match against Bowling Green will be broadcast on ESPN3.
