Mastodons Drop Early Morning Match to Raiders
9/5/2015 12:52:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The IPFW women's volleyball team won the opening set over Wright State but was unable hold them off, falling 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19). The Mastodons are now 1-5 on the season.
Sarah Heckman led the 'Dons with 12 kills and added three blocks. Somer Johnson went for her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs. Nicole Rightnowar had a season-high 12 digs to go along with seven kills. Natasha Medic finished with a match-high seven blocks while adding six kills.
Olivia Hahn led all players with a match-high 17 digs. Madison Jaqua dished out a team-high 20 assists while Clair Marshall finished with 15 assists. Victoria Mills served up a match-high two aces.
With the score tied 4-4 in the opening set, the Mastodons slowly began to pull away, before using a 7-1 run to lead 21-13 to cruise to take the set. The second set saw an early IPFW lead disappear as Wright State used five consecutive points late in the frame to tie the match at 1-1.
An 8-2 run to start the third set by the Raiders was too much for the Mastodons to overcome down the stretch. IPFW took the opening point of the third set, but a four-point run by WSU gave them the lead for good. An early six-point swing in the fourth set by Wright State was too much for the Mastodons to fight back from as they dropped the set and the match.
IPFW closes out the Hampton Inn Invitational tonight, September 5, against host Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m. The match will be televised live on ESPN3.
