BROOKINGS, S.D. – George Marshall scored a career-high 28 points to lead South Dakota State University to a 92-76 men's college basketball Summit League victory past IPFW on Thursday night at Frost Arena in Brookings, South Dakota. Deondre Parks tied his career-high with 26 points for the host Jackrabbits (14-4, 3-1 Summit League), who outscored their visitors 53-38 in the second half. Redshirt-senior Max Landis/Indianapolis led the visiting Mastodons (14-5, 3-1 Summit League) with 23 points, while redshirt-freshman John Konchar/Chicago, Ill. added 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for his fourth double-double this season. IPFW will play again on the road at the University of Nebraska Omaha on Saturday, January 16, at 2 p.m. ET in Omaha, Nebraska.
SDSU, ranked No. 15 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, scored the first eight points of the contest behind Marshall (5) and Parks (3) to lead 8-0 at 17:10. IPFW battled back to tie it at 13-13 with 11:48 on the clock, getting a pair of three-point field goals from senior Michael Calder/Fort Lauderdale, Fla., along with four quick points from redshirt-junior Brent Calhoun/Indianapolis and an old-fashioned three-point play by Konchar. It was tied at 20-20 after a jumper by Marshall, before the Mastodons scored seven-straight points to lead 27-20 at 7:28, getting five quick points from Landis. It was still tied at 34-34 following a pair of free throws from senior Joe Reed/Greenwood, but the Jackrabbits led 39-38 at halftime, despite a late three-pointer by Landis after a triple from Marshall, who scored 20 first-half points.
IPFW, ranked No. 20 in this week's Mid-Major Top 25, started the second half strong and led 46-43 at 18:13 after a jumper by Konchar. SDSU, however, used a 12-1 run to lead 55-47 at 14:21, getting nine points from Parks (5) and Marshall (4). The Jackrabbits stretched their advantage to 67-54 with 10:40 remaining, before the Mastodons battled back with a 15-6 run to close to within 73-69 at 6:24. Freshman Kason Harrell/Pittsburgh, Pa. had two three-pointers during the run, while Reed scored six quick points, as well. That was as close as it would get, though, as SDSU finished the game by outscoring its opposition, 19-7, behind eight late points from Parks.
Landis led IPFW with his 23 points, making 5-11 three-pointers, tying his career-high with five rebounds along with a game-high five assists. Konchar added his 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds for his fourth collegiate double-double. Reed finished with 11 points and five rebounds for the Mastodons, while Calder had nine points and Harrell contributed seven points, off the bench. IPFW shot 35% (23-66) from the field, including 41% (12-29) on three-pointers and 72% (18-25) at the free throw line.

The Mastodons have equaled their finest start to a season as a Division I program (2001-02) with the 14-5 record. The 2013-14 team also began 14-5, en route to a DI best 15-5 beginning. IPFW's all-time best start was 11-0, accomplished during 1988-89 as a Division II member.
Coach Coffman on Mo Evans
Prior to tonight's game at South Dakota State, IPFW head coach Jon Coffman announced that junior guard Mo Evans/Indianapolis would miss the remainder of the season. "Though Mo is on track to graduate on time, he did not meet an academic requirement. As a result, he will not be traveling nor participating in competition during the spring semester to focus on academics."
