Price Has Career Night with Double-Double in Mastodon Victory

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Defense leads the way as the IPFW men's volleyball scrapped out a 3-1 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday evening (21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17). The Mastodons improved their record to 2-1 for the season, while the Pioneers fell to 0-5. With the win, the Blue and White extend its winning-streak over EIVA opponents to 10 matches overall and eight matches while playing at home.
Tony Price earned his first career double-double, while setting new career highs with 17 kills (hitting .500), 11 digs, and six blocks to help lead the 'Dons. Luis Bertran earned a match-high 13 digs inching him closer to the IPFW career digs record as he now sits with 722, just 94 shy of the record set by Jay Golsteyn (816). Bertran currently sits fifth on the IPFW career digs list.
David Frazee earned a career high 14 kills, with an impressive .778 hitting percentage (14-0-18), while setting new career highs in blocks (seven). Andrew Sellan was the third Mastodon to reach double-digit kills, earning 15, while adding four blocks and three digs. Micheal Keegan nabbed a match and career high with 52 assists, as the Blue and White hit .381 as a team.
IPFW struggled out the gate as Sacred Heart jumped to a 5-1 lead in the opening set, eventually trailing 15-9 midway through. The 'Dons took a 6-2 run late in the set, fending off two set points, before the Pioneers eventually took the opening set 25-21.
The 'Dons were in yet another battle as both teams were knotted at 11 apiece midway through. After going down 14-13, IPFW ran away with the set with an 11-2 run, eventually winning 25-17.
Each team swapped the opening points in the third set before Sacred Heart took a 7-4 lead. An 8-2 run from the 'Dons helped IPFW take a lead it wouldn't relinquish, highlighted by a triple block from Frazee, Price, and Keegan, giving the 'Dons a 12-9 lead.
The Blue and White opened up the fourth set on a 7-3 run, but the Pioneers were able to get within a point, 9-8, early on. IPFW took control after 10-4 run to lead Sacred Heart 19-12. The 'Dons followed with a 5-1 run, eventually taking the final set 25-17.
IPFW will take on the Harvard Crimson tomorrow, January 16, on Arnie Ball Court at 4 p.m.
