Second Half Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer To 2-1 Win Over Bowling Green
10/25/2016 10:08:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne men's soccer bounced back from an early deficit to defeat Bowling Green 2-1 on Tuesday (Oct. 25) evening at a chilly Hefner Soccer Complex.
The win improves Fort Wayne to 8-8-0 on the season. The Mastodons have now matched the mark for most wins in a season during the Division I era. The 2011 squad went 8-10-2.
Bowling Green was first on the scoreboard as Joe Sullivan scored in the 18th minute. Tate Robertson and Chris Brennan assisted on the goal which Sullivan finished from about five yards out.
It didn't stay 1-0 for long. Less than four minutes later Jacob Murphy scored from a sharp angle on the right side. Will Hunt assisted on the play. It was Murphy's seventh goal of the season. Murphy's tally gave him the team lead, but only momentarily. In the second half when it seemed overtime was looming Oscar Uyamadu took a pass from Adam Gannon and moved toward the center of the field. From well outside the 18-yard box he unleashed a shot above the reach of Bowling Green keeper Anthony Mwembia.
Uyamadu's goal with just over 12 minutes remaining was his seventh of the season, ended up being the difference in the contest.
Fort Wayne held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks in the game.
Bowling Green falls to 9-5-2 on the season. Fort Wayne can set the NCAA Division I era program mark for single season wins on Saturday (Oct. 29) when IUPUI comes to town. It will be Senior Night for the 'Dons.
