Tough Fourth Quarter Shooting Downs Mastodons

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's basketball team was unable to hold off a late surge by Trine, as the Mastodons closed out its three games in four days stretch, falling to the Thunder 80-71.
De'Jour Young led the 'Dons with 16 points and three steals. Peyton Fallis scored 12 points in her first game of the season for the Mastodons. Rachel Rinehart did a little bit of everything for Fort Wayne, finishing with a game-high six assists to go along with eight points and five rebounds.
Trine opened the game with back-to-back baskets but the 'Dons responded with a 7-0 run. The two teams exchanged leads before a three by Trine put them up, and a pair of free throws from Fallis made it 20-19 at the end of the first.
The Mastodons opened the second quarter with a 12-4 advantage as Fort Wayne led 29-24 with 4:23 left in the half. With the score tied 31-31, Anna Lappenküper hit a layup with 27 seconds left to give the 'Dons a 33-32 lead heading to the break.
An early third quarter 11-2 Thunder run put them up 44-38, but again the Mastodons responded. This time by scoring nine consecutive points and using a 14-2 advantage to retake the lead, 52-46 with 1:38 left in the quarter. Midway through the fourth, Trine scored nine straight points to take a 71-64 lead, as the 'Dons were unable to mount one final comeback down the stretch.
On the night, the Mastodons shot 25-of-62 (40.3%) from the floor, 5-of-20 (25%) on three-point attempts and 16-of-20 (80%) at the free throw line.
Fort Wayne heads out on the road for the first time this season when it travels to Butler for an 11 a.m. game on Wednesday (Nov. 16).
