Young Scores Career-High 21 Points in Loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's basketball team fell to Oakland 82-61 Saturday afternoon (Nov. 19) at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
De'Jour Young led the Mastodons with a career-high 21 points. Young connected on 5-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-5 beyond the arc, and went a career-best 8-of-10 at the free throw line. Selena Lozada finished with nine points while Rachel Rinehart had eight. Young, Rinehart and Lozada all tied for the team-lead with five rebounds. Rinehart also led the team with three steals while Rinehart and Anna Lappenküper finished with three assists.
The Mastodons jumped out in front, scoring the first two baskets of the game. Fort Wayne began the second quarter with an 8-0 run to lead 27-17. Oakland closed out the half with a 20-9 advantage as the 'Dons trailed 37-36.
Fort Wayne scored back-to-back buckets and used an 8-2 run put them out in front 46-43. The Golden Grizzlies responded by finishing the third quarter on a 9-2 run and lead 52-48. Oakland added a 9-0 stretch midway through the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the 'Dons.
For the game, the Mastodons shot 20-for-51 (39.2%) from the field, 4-of-11 (36.4%) from beyond the arc and 17-of-22 (77.3%) at the free throw line.
Fort Wayne will take the Thanksgiving holiday off before returning to action on Saturday, November 26 to face Coastal Carolina for an 11 a.m. game at the Memorial Coliseum.
