History At The Coliseum! – Fort Wayne Defeats No. 3 Indiana 71-68 In OT

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – History was made at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday (Nov. 22) evening. Fort Wayne men's basketball earned their first victory over a ranked squad as they took down No. 3 Indiana 71-68 in overtime in front of 11,076.
Three Mastodons finished in double-digits, including Fort Wayne native Bryson Scott's 18 points. He also had 12 rebounds to earn his first double-double in a Mastodon uniform. John Konchar had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kason Harrell pitched in 13 points.
The 'Dons held a lead for 39:53 of the game. Indiana's largest lead of the game came on a game opening 3-pointer.
In the second half, Indiana took a brief 43-42 lead with 16:16 to play. It would be their final lead of the game as the 'Dons responded with a 6-0 run. Konchar had two dunks in the push which forced an Indiana timeout.
Indiana tied the game with a pair of free throws by Thomas Bryant with 19 seconds. Kason Harrell's last second shot was off the mark.
In overtime, Harrell opened the scoring with a 3-pointer only to see Indiana's Robert Johnson respond to tie the game at 68. It would be Indiana's final points of the game.
A free throw by Konchar with 1:19 left put the 'Dons up for good at 69-68. He earned a trip to the line after an aggressive drive to the basket. A pair of free throws by DeAngelo Stewart with three seconds all but iced the game. Konchar intercepted Indiana's desperation pass from the opposite baseline after a timeout. Konchar threw the ball in the air in celebration as the student section stormed the court.
Nearly lost in the frantic overtime were two key blocks by Xzavier Taylor on the defensive end for the Mastodons.
It had been 10 years since a Summit League member defeated Top 5 team. That win was Oral Roberts over Kansas.
Indiana drops to 3-1 with the loss. Fort Wayne improves to 3-2 with the win. The 'Dons return to action on Saturday (Nov. 26) against Mississippi Valley State. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m.
