IPFW Drops Road Doubleheader At Oral Roberts 5-2, 15-0

TULSA, Okla. -- Redshirt-senior Shane Trevino and redshirt-sophomore Brock Logan each had an RBI on the day, though IPFW was swept in a Summit League baseball doubleheader at Oral Roberts University Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The visiting Mastodons (10-13, 1-5 Summit League) dropped the opener against the host Golden Eagles (12-11, 4-2 Summit League), 5-2, before falling in the nightcap, 15-0. IPFW will play its first home game of the season against NAIA member Goshen College on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. at Mastodon Field in Fort Wayne.
In game one, IPFW scored its lone runs in the third inning as senior Evan VanSumeren (2-4) doubled to left center field and later crossed the plate on an RBI single by Trevino (1-3, RBI). Trevino would also score on a run-scoring single from Logan (2-4, RBI).
Senior Trevor Storie (2-3) started for IPFW and pitched the first 6.0 innings in defeat, scattering five hits and four runs, all earned, with three strikeouts and three walks. Redshirt-sophomore Brandon Phelps faced just two batters, walking both and allowing one run, earned, with no strikeouts. Junior Tanner McAninch pitched 2.0 scoreless innings for the Mastodons, allowing no hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Oral Roberts was led offensively in the opener by Matt Whatley (1-2, 2 RBIs), who had a two-run home run in the first inning. Nick Wood (2-1) started for the Golden Eagles and pitched the first 5.0 innings for the win, allowing nine hits and two runs, both earned, with eight strikeouts and no walks. Grant Glaze (1) tossed the final 4.0 shutout innings for the Golden Eagles to gain the save, yielding one hit with five strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, IPFW was limited to just one hit by four different pitchers in the seven-inning contest. Junior Jackson Boyce (1-2) managed a single in the third inning for the Mastodons.
