In game one, IPFW scored its lone runs in the third inning as senior Evan VanSumeren (2-4) doubled to left center field and later crossed the plate on an RBI single by Trevino (1-3, RBI). Trevino would also score on a run-scoring single from Logan (2-4, RBI).
Senior Trevor Storie (2-3) started for IPFW and pitched the first 6.0 innings in defeat, scattering five hits and four runs, all earned, with three strikeouts and three walks. Redshirt-sophomore Brandon Phelps faced just two batters, walking both and allowing one run, earned, with no strikeouts. Junior Tanner McAninch pitched 2.0 scoreless innings for the Mastodons, allowing no hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Oral Roberts was led offensively in the opener by Matt Whatley (1-2, 2 RBIs), who had a two-run home run in the first inning.
