Fort Wayne Tops SJC 4-0 In Program’s First Ever Indoor Contest
8/26/2016 9:19:00 PM | Men's Soccer
WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Mastodons men's soccer team topped Saint Joseph's 4-0 on Friday (Aug. 26) evening in the 2016 season opener for the 'Dons. The game was moved inside to Grand Park's indoor complex due to rain. The contest was the first regular season indoor game in Fort Wayne men's soccer history. It was also the first regular season collegiate game at Grand Park's indoor field.
The 'Dons were quick to jump on the scoreboard when Jacob Murphy scored at the five minute mark. His tally was assisted by Adam Gannon.
It stayed 1-0 until the 43rd minute. Spencer Brown finished for the goal, but it was set up by a nice cross from Zach Tom before a flick header pass by Thilo Körperich. Both earned an assist on the play.
Murphy added another goal in the 83rd minute when he scored from the far right side about eight yards out. Tom followed with a goal in the 87th minute, assisted by Brown, to round out the scoring at 4-0.
Fort Wayne keeper Raphael Kotzock picked up five saves to earn the shutout. The 'Dons out-shot the Pumas 20-8.
The 'Dons are back in action on Monday (Aug. 29) against Cincinnati. That contest will be played at Indiana Tech in a 2:30 p.m. start.
