Offensive Attack Earns Mastodons a Sweep Over Eagles

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team got back to its winning ways as the Mastodons swept visiting Eastern Michigan 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) Tuesday night (Sept. 6) on Arnie Ball Court. The Mastodons improve their overall record to 3-4 on the season.
Lauren Hoffman led the 'Dons at the net with a match-high 11 kills and three blocks. Nicole Rightnowar added nine kills, while Natalie Seiler had seven and Somer Johnson added six. Seiler also had a team-high two aces to go along with three blocks.
Madison Jaqua dished out a match-high 30 assists while Olivia Hahn finished with a match-high 23 digs. Hahn's dig total was the most by a Mastodon in a three-set match since Jen Milligan had 25 against North Dakota State on Nov. 22, 2013.
Fort Wayne trailed 9-8 in the first set before a 5-1 run pushed them into the lead and eventually take the set. With the score tied 3-3 in the second, the Mastodons used an 8-1 run to put away the frame.
After 10 ties early in the third set, the 'Dons were able to break a 16-16 score by netting three straight points, and five of the next six, to win the set and earn the sweep.
Fort Wayne returns to action for the two-day Toledo/Asics Invitational beginning September 9 against Marshall at noon followed by Toledo at 7 p.m.
