Fort Wayne MVB Falls in Straight Sets at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Despite hitting .409 in the second set, the Fort Wayne men's volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 27-25) at the William H. Pitt Center on Friday (Jan. 20).
The Mastodons outhit the Pioneers in the second and third set, reaching a .250 clip in the third, compared to Sacred Heart's .194. The 'Dons also had 13 kills in the third stanza, one more than the Pioneers.
In the first set, the 'Dons never trailed by more than two points. Fort Wayne went on a four-point run, which included a service ace from Colton Stone, to reach a 6-4 lead. Sacred Heart tied the score at six apiece, and the back-and-forth nature of the set continued until Sacred Heart earned back-to-back points to finish the set at 26-24.
The call and response style of the match continued, as the 'Dons never trailed by more than two in the third set. Fort Wayne led by three at several points in the set, but could not convert either of the two set points. Sacred Heart finished the set on a 6-1 run to take the match.
Pelegrin Vargas led the 'Dons with 15 kills, while chipping in six digs. Jack Carlson and Michael Keegan also contributed six digs each. Graydon Schroeder had a season-high six blocks to lead the Mastodons.
Fort Wayne falls to 0-8, while Sacred Heart improves to 3-0.
The Mastodons are back in action on Sunday (Jan. 22) at 3 p.m. at Alderson Broaddus.
