FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team closed out the regular season by earning a sweep over the visiting South Dakota State Jackrabbits 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-21). Prior to the match, the Mastodons honored their three seniors Natalie Seiler, Barbara Maximiano and Lauren Hoffman.
Nicole Rightnowar earned her 20th double-double of the season as she led the match in kills, digs and aces. She finished with 16 kills, 14 digs and two aces, while hitting a season-high .452.
All three seniors put up solid nights as Seiler had 11 kills and a match-high five blocks, Maximiano had a career-high 10 kills, and Hoffman finished with six kills and two blocks.
Madison Jaqua led all players with 43 assists, en route to her 10th double-double of the season with 11 digs. Elizabeth Britner also finished with 11 digs in the match.
As a team, Fort Wayne hit a season-high .377 on the night, including hitting .500 in the second set.
After the Jackrabbits scored the opening point of the match, the Mastodons fired back with three straight and never looked back, as the 'Dons closed out the set with a 5-1 advantage. Set number two was knotted at 7-7 before Fort Wayne roared back with a 9-2 run to take the lead for good. The final set was all Mastodons from the beginning, despite the Jacks pulling close down the stretch. The 'Dons scored the first three points, before closing out the match with four consecutive points.
With the win, Fort Wayne now waits to see if it will qualify for the Summit League Championship. If Denver defeats Western Illinois on Sunday, the Mastodons will earn the final spot in the tournament.
