Fort Wayne enters the 2017-18 season with only four players returning from last season that played, and nine players that have never played for the Mastodons. The roster features eight new players, plus a redshirt freshman. Of those nine new players, six are freshmen, two are sophomore transfers and one is a junior transfer that will sit out this season.
Among all Division I programs that provided information, the Mastodons have the seventh highest percentage of newcomers on its roster. The team is also 12th in freshman percentage and 16th in underclassmen percentage. Among those surveyed, Fort Wayne was one of only four teams to rank in the top-16 of all three categories. Those five teams are listed below.
