Fort Wayne Falls on the Road to No. 7 Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Despite a double-double from Michael Keegan, the Fort Wayne men's volleyball team fell to the seventh ranked Lewis Flyers 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-20,25-17) in Neil Carey Arena on Saturday night (Feb. 18).
The Mastodons jumped out to a quick lead with a 17-9 advantage in the first set, forcing two Lewis timeouts within four plays. Alex Dickmann had three kills in a six-point stretch, finishing with six in the first. Pelegrin Vargas had the kill that ended a late 6-0 Lewis run to take the set. Vargas had five kills in the first set. Fort Wayne outhit the Flyers .333 to .000 in the first set.
In the second set, the 'Dons tied the score at nine apiece, but Lewis went on an 8-2 run to stay out of reach. A five-point run late kept the 'Dons competitive, but the Flyers took four of the last six points of the set.
In the third, Fort Wayne held a 14-14 tie, but the Flyers took an 11-6 run to the end of the set. The 'Dons fell behind early in the fourth and could not claw back from a 19-10 Lewis lead.
The 'Dons were led in kills by Vargas, who finished with a career-high tying 17. Keegan led the 'Dons in digs with 12, which paired with his 39 assists for his second double-double of the season, fourth in his career. His 12 digs were his season-best.
Fort Wayne falls to 4-13, 1-5 MIVA, while Lewis improves to 11-3, 6-2 MIVA. Fort Wayne continues its road stretch with Quincy and Lindenwood on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25). Those matches will be played 8 p.m. EST respectively.
