Three Mastodons Earn a Double-Double in Exhibition Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Three players earned a double-double for the Fort Wayne women's volleyball team in its exhibition match against Bowling Green, but it was not enough as the Mastodons fell 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 20-25, 24-26, 15-8).
The 'Dons showed a strong offense all night as they finished with 68 kills to Bowling Green's 49. Fort Wayne also out-hit BGSU .214 to .193, and finished with more kills in each of the first four sets.
Nicole Rightnowar, Victoria Mills and Katie Crowe each earned a double-double for the Mastodons. Rightnowar led all players with 25 kills to go along with 10 digs. Mills finished with a match-high 46 assists and had 19 digs. The freshman Crowe added 11 kills and 11 digs to go along with five blocks. Fellow freshman Julia Wayer had a team-high 20 digs, while the third freshman on the team, Sydney Boerst, had a match-high seven blocks.
Also for the Mastodons, Natalie Seiler finished with 12 kills while Elizabeth Fuerst had 11 kills and eight digs. Madison Jaqua dished out 11 assists and Elizabeth Britner added seven digs.
BGSU never trailed in the first set. Fort Wayne jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, but the Falcons were able to score the final seven points to win the set.
It was the Mastodons turn in the third set as they never trailed, which included a 9-2 run midway through the frame. The fourth set saw a back-and-forth battle as the teams exchanged six leads and 12 ties. In the end, it was Crowe and Seiler with back-to-back kills to force the decisive fifth set. The 'Dons were unable to keep the momentum going in the final set as BGSU jumped out to an early 5-1 lead that Fort Wayne was unable to overcome.
The Mastodons kick off the regular season when they host the Fort Wayne Invitational Presented by Hyatt Place August 25-26. The 'Dons begin the tournament against Quinnipiac Friday at 7pm, before facing SIUE and Toledo on Saturday.
