Men’s Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw At No. 24 Omaha

OMAHA – Fort Wayne picked up a point in the Summit League standings thanks to a 1-1 (2 OT) draw at No. 24 Omaha on Saturday (Sept. 30) evening.
The Mastodons' only goal of the contest came in the 18th minute when Romain Lopez scored his third goal of the year. The tally was assisted by Zach Tom. The shot went into the bottom corner of the goal.
The 'Dons took the 1-0 lead to the break but Omaha answered two minutes into the second half thanks to a penalty kick goal by Xavier Gomez.
The overtime sessions featured only one shot by either team, a header by Fort Wayne's Oscar Uyamadu in the 109th minute which was saved by Omaha goalkeeper Joseph Ghitis.
Fort Wayne goalkeeper Brendan Stangel totaled three saves in the contest for the 'Dons.
The last time the 'Dons earned a result against a ranked foe was a 0-0 tie at No. 10 Akron in 2006.
Omaha is now 7-2-2 (0-0-2 Summit League). Fort Wayne is now 3-5-4 (0-1-1 Summit League). The 'Dons have a week off before traveling to Oral Roberts on Oct. 7 in Summit League action.
