Mastodons Start 6-0 After Topping Sacred Heart

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne men's volleyball team took a straight set victory (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) over Sacred Heart on Saturday (Jan. 20) to move to 6-0 for the season.
The Mastodons started hot, hitting .419 in the first, but did not take the lead for good until a three-point run that gave Fort Wayne three set point opportunities. Tony Price and Colton Stone both hit 5-0-7 to set the pace for Fort Wayne.
Defense won the second set, as the 'Dons and Pioneers both hit .185. Fort Wayne had 10 digs and six team blocks in the second set. SHU took the first point, but would never lead again in the match. Despite the lead never getting larger than three, the Mastodons never trailed after the second point of the set. Fort Wayne had three separate three-point runs to keep its distance from Sacred Heart. Tomas Gago had four of his six blocks in the second set.
Fort Wayne had strong hitting in the third set as well with a .583 team clip. A four-point run behind Stone's service extended the lead to five, and the 'Dons did not give up the lead for the rest of the night.
Michael Keegan dished out 39 assists, while also adding seven digs, four kills and two blocks. Stone finished with 11 kills, Pelegrin Vargas had 12 and Price had eight for a .467 percentage. Gago had six kills on six attacks, moving his season hitting percentage up to .571. Kolbie Knorr had seven digs.
Fort Wayne moves to 6-0, while Sacred Heart falls to 0-2. Fort Wayne will take a quick trip to Sylvania, Ohio next Wednesday (Jan. 24) to play Lourdes.
