Mastodons Earn Road Sweep of Jackrabbits

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team went on the road and picked up a convincing sweep over South Dakota State, as the Mastodons won 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21).
Nicole Rightnowar led the way with a pair of match-highs, finishing with 16 digs and 15 kills. Katie Crowe earned 12 kills for the 'Dons, while Madelyn Wurster and Sydney Boerst each finished with seven kills. Boerst led the Mastodons with a match-high five blocks. Madison Jaqua led the offense with a match-high 41 assists to go along with nine digs. Elizabeth Britner finished with 13 digs.
The two sides hung close in the early goings of the first set. Leading 7-6, the Mastodons broke free, going on a 7-2 run to extend their lead to six points and take the set. The 'Dons won the second set thanks to a pair of extended runs. Tied 2-2, Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 5-1 run. Later, leading by two, the Mastodons again used a 7-2 advantage to win the frame. The 'Dons would need to make a comeback in the third set after falling behind early. Trailing 17-13, the Mastodons came rumbling back with six straight points to take a 19-17 lead. The 'Dons closed out the match on a 4-1 advantage to earn the sweep.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns home to host its annual Pink Out match, when the Mastodons take on Omaha Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m.
