DENVER, Colo. – The No. 5 Denver Pioneers scored in the 56thand 88thminutes to edge the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 2-0 in a Summit League men's soccer match on Friday (Oct. 5) evening.
The two clubs played a scoreless first 45 minutes and combined for only seven shots in the process. Romain Lopez hit the crossbar for the 'Dons in the second minute.
The second half saw the nation's leader in goals add to his total. Andrew Shinyashiki now has 21 goals on the season for Denver. Jacob Stensson and Stefon DeLeon assisted on the first goal. Destan Norman assisted on the second.
Denver and Purdue Fort Wayne each had seven corner kicks in the match. The Mastodons had all seven in the second half as they looked for the equalizer.
Tor Erik Larsen made five saves for the 'Dons.
Denver moves to 10-0-2 (1-0-1 Summit). Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 6-5-1 (0-2-0 Summit). The 'Dons are back in action on Tuesday at Marshall.
