FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team picked up a home victory Monday night (Nov. 12), as the Mastodons defeated Taylor 84-74. The 'Dons improved their record to 2-1 on the season.
De'Jour Young led all players with 20 points and eight rebounds. Hannah Hess came off the bench to finish with multiple career-highs, scoring 16 points, including four three-pointers, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Hannah Albrecht finished with 14 points, while Jaelencia Williams had 12 points, five rebounds, and tied a career-high with three blocks.
It was back-and-forth in the early goings as the teams traded 13 leads. Down one, 26-25, with 4:16 left in the second quarter, the Mastodons used an 8-0 run to put them up four at the break. Midway through the fourth quarter, Taylor cut the Mastodon lead to four again at 73-69. The 'Dons finished off the Trojans by scoring 11 straight points over the next 3:04 to put the game away.
As a team, the Mastodons shot 50% percent (31-of-62) from the field, 9-of-23 (39.1%) from long range, and 76.5% (13-of-17) at the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne begins a three-game road trip when the Mastodons visit Eastern Illinois on Thursday, November 15, for a 1 p.m. ET game.
