11/18/2018 4:54:00 PM | Women's Basketball
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team had a tough task to go on the road at Big Ten foe Purdue. The Mastodons hung with their sister school early, but the 'Dons were unable to maintain pace as they fell 78-44. The loss drops the Mastodons to 2-3 on the season.
Hannah Albrecht led the 'Dons with 12 points off the bench. Hannah Hess added in nine points, all coming from long range. De'Jour Young and Sh'Toya Sanders led the team with five rebounds each. Young also led the way with four assists.
Purdue scored the first five points of the game before the Mastodons got on the board with a layup by Jaelencia Williams at the 5:41 mark. After trading baskets, the Boilermakers closed out the first quarter with six straight points. Purdue Fort Wayne cut the deficit to seven with a jumper by Sanders to open the second. That would be as close as the Mastodons would get as Purdue went on a 16-3 run, including 12 straight to put the game out of reach.
For the day, the 'Dons shot 16-of-59 (27%) from the field, 6-of-23 (26%) beyond the arc and 6-of-14 (43%) at the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne closes out its road trip when the Mastodons travel to Evansville on Tuesday, November 20, for a 7 p.m. ET tipoff.
