Fourth Quarter Comeback Spurs Mastodons to Road Victory

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team made a fourth-quarter comeback to pick up a road win at Evansville 72-66. The Mastodons improve their record to 3-3 on the season.
De'Jour Young led all scorers with 19 points. She also finished with seven rebounds and a team-high four steals. Kierstyn Repp scored 16 points, including knocking down four shots from downtown. Sh'Toya Sanders tied a season-high with 13 points and had a game-high eight rebounds. Anna Lappenküper also finished in double-digits with 10 points.
The two teams traded early leads in the first quarter before the Mastodons went on a 7-0 run to lead 14-11 at the end of the period. The 'Dons continued to lead 30-23 late into the second quarter, but the Purple Aces made a run over the last 2:15. Evansville scored the final 11 points of the half, as the Mastodons trailed 34-30.
The 'Dons began their comeback late in the third quarter as they out-scored the Purple Aces 8-2 to regain the lead. After trading buckets in the fourth, Purdue Fort Wayne continued to lead by one. Evansville hit a layup with 33 seconds left on the clock, but the 'Dons held them to two points from there as they connected on 7-of-8 free throws in the final 29 seconds to cement the game.
The Mastodons finished the night shooting 26-of-58 (44.8%), 6-of-18 (33.3%) from beyond the arc and 14-of-22 (63.6%) at the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns home to host SIUE Saturday, November 24 at 2 p.m.
