'Dons Earn 104-60 Road Win At Eastern Illinois Thanks To 21 3-Pointers

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Purdue Fort Wayne matched a program single-game record with 21 3-pointers on Wednesday (Nov. 28) evening in a 104-60 non-league win at Eastern Illinois.
The Mastodons went to the half leading 41-30 thanks to a late push over the final seven minutes of the first half. A 16-2 run turned a 26-25 Mastodon deficit into a 13-point advantage. EIU went 1-of-11 during the stretch and committed four turnovers.
The 'Dons put away the win in the second half with 12 of their 21 3-pointers coming in the final 20 minutes. Purdue Fort Wayne made their first five attempts from beyond the arc in the second. Six Mastodons made three or more 3-pointers in the game.
Seven 'Dons finished in double-digits. John Konchar had 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Jarred Godfrey also had 16 points. Matt Holba scored 15 points, making 5-of-6 from long range. Kason Harrell scored 14 points with 3-of-4 from three. Marcus DeBerry had his best game in a Mastodon uniform, scoring 14 points. Dee Montgomery and Matt Weir added 11 points, each going 3-of-4 from long range.
As a team, the Mastodons finished 21-of-37 from three. It matches the 21 they made against Olivet on Jan. 9, 2017. The 21 on Wednesday is the best against a Division I opponent, passing the 20 the 'Dons made against Oral Roberts on Dec. 31, 2016.
The 21 3-pointers are the most by a Summit League team this season and the sixth most in Division I this year.
Purdue Fort Wayne had 24 assists on 37 baskets. The Mastodons had a 50-27 edge on the glass.
The win was Jon Coffman's 83rd as a head coach for the Mastodons. It is a new NCAA Division I era program record. He passed Dane Fife's 82 wins from 2005-11.
Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 5-4 with the win. The Panthers are now 3-4.
The 'Dons return to the friendly confines of the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday (Dec. 1) when UMKC comes to the Summit City. It will be the Mastodons' only day home game of the season with a 2 p.m. tip. The game is part of the WAC/Summit League Challenge.
