Mastodons Fight Back from 14 Point Deficit, But Fall to Broncos

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team erased a 14-point deficit, but the Mastodons were unable to hang on, dropping its first road game of the season to Western Michigan 69-61.
The 'Dons out-shot the Broncos from the floor and behind the arc, but the difference came at the free throw line. Purdue Fort Wayne finished the game shooting 42.4% (25-of-59) from the field, 46.7% (7-of-15) beyond the arc, but finished 40% (4-of-10) at the charity stripe.
De'Jour Young led the Mastodons with 14 points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Sh'Toya Sanders, Kierstyn Repp, Jaelencia Williams and Hannah Hess all finished with nine points. Sanders led all played with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Tied 10-10 in the opening quarter, the Mastodons would use an 8-0 run to take the lead. The 'Dons were unable to stay hot as Western Michigan immediately answered with an 22-0 run over the next 8:01 to take back the lead. The Mastodons ended their drought on a three from Repp, but the 'Dons found themselves trailing 34-24 at the half.

The 'Dons took the lead after a 6-0 run, as Anna Lappenküper gave them the lead on a three-pointer with seven minutes to play in the game. The Mastodons were unable to hang on down the stretch, as Western Michigan used an 9-2 run to hold off the 'Dons.
