Purdue Fort Wayne Falls to Ball State in Home Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In her collegiate debut, freshman Kayla Wisniewski netted her first goal of the regular season in a 2-1 loss to Ball State at Hefner Soccer Complex. A 90-minute rain delay stopped the action in the first half, but the Cardinals and Mastodons returned to the field with a 1-0 Ball State lead.
Ball State ended up taking a 2-0 lead with a penalty kick from Allison Abbe and a runaway score from Tatiana Mason. Wisniewski ripped a shot from outside the '18 in the 70th minute that Ball State's keeper Tristin Stuteville tapped, but could not fully stop. The freshman finished with three shots, all on target.
The Mastodons ended the night with three of its six shots on goal. Newcomer Lorah Pund saw the final 45 minutes in goal, while Haley Lydon took the first 45. Lydon had six saves.
The 'Dons start the season 0-1-0, while Ball State begins 1-0-0. Purdue Fort Wayne is back in action on Sunday (Aug. 19) when the Indiana State Sycamores come to town.
