Mastodons Drop Road Matchup to Jaguars

INDIANAPOLIS - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped its first road match of the season, as the Mastodons fell the IUPUI 3-0 (26-24, 28-26, 25-17).
The 'Dons were led offensively by Elizabeth Fuerst, who finished with 11 kills and a match-high four blocks. Nicole Rightnowar had nine kills, while Katie Crowe and Sydney Boerst each had six. Madison Jaqua led the Mastodon squad with 18 assists. Elizabeth Britner led the way with 13 digs on the night, while Rightnowar added 10 digs of her own.
The Mastodons trailed by as many as seven in the opening set, before going on an 8-1 run to tie the frame at 20-20. IUPUI went on a three-point run, but the Mastodons were able to fight off multiple set points thanks to a 3-0 run of their own and tie it 24-24. The 'Dons could not take the lead as the Jags scored the final two points to take the set. The Mastodons again trailed early in the second set before battling back once again midway through. The 'Dons had multiple set points but were unable to close it out as the Jaguars scored three straight to take the set. Purdue Fort Wayne could not get its offense going early in the third set as IUPUI jumped out a lead it would not relinquish.
The Mastodons return to action at the two-day Golden Flashes Classic, beginning August 31. First up, the 'Dons take on Morgan State at noon, followed by host Kent State at 7 p.m.
