Purdue Fort Wayne WSOC Even with Evansville After 110 Minutes
9/14/2018 10:59:00 PM | Women's Soccer
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer picked up a point on Friday night (Sept. 14) thanks to a 2-2 draw with Evansville at McCutchan Stadium. The Mastodons move to three straight matches unbeaten, which marks the first time since 2015 that the 'Dons have done so.
The Purple Aces held control of the ball for most of the match, but the Mastodons took advantage of the opportunities they had. Evansville put a point on the board first on a penalty kick just before the end of the opening half. The Purple Aces later took a 2-0 lead thanks to a header from inside the box in the 54th minute.
Deanna Hecht put the Mastodons on the board in minute 68 with the 'Dons first shot on goal since the 16th minute. She was assisted by Kayla Wisniewski, who passed it into the middle from the top of the 18. Just 87 seconds later, Chloee Foor found the back of the net herself, after a set piece was deflected and landed at her feet, allowing her to shoot past the Purple Ace keeper. This was Foor's first goal of the season. The 2-2 scoreline would hold until the clock hit zero after double-overtime. The Mastodons scored both goals in the match by only taking three shots on goal on the night. A critical team save by Cesiley LaCourt in the 75th minute kept Evansville from sneaking a late goal in before overtime.
The 'Dons did not have any shots in either overtime period, but the defense held strong to keep Evansville from coming away with a win. Senior Haley Lydon, who played all 110 minutes, finished with eight saves on 25 shots faced.
The Mastodons are now 1-1-2 against teams hailing from the Missouri Valley Conference. The 'Dons move to 2-4-3 on the season while Evansville moves to 2-6-1. Purdue Fort Wayne will take the field at home on Saturday, September 22 when Chicago State comes to visit. This will be the last nonconference match before Summit League play begins on September 28.
