Women's Volleyball Claims RMU Sheraton Innvitational Title

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - For the second time this season, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team are champions. The Mastodons defeated host Robert Morris 3-1 (28-26, 25-23, 15-25, 25-16), to claim the RMU Sheraton Innvitational championship trophy after going undefeated on the weekend.
Nicole Rightnowar led the 'Dons with 13 kills and added eight digs in the match. Elizabeth Fuerst finished the afternoon with 11 kills and five blocks. Katie Crowe, Sydney Boerst and Madelyn Wurster all had seven kills. Madison Jaqua led the team with 32 assists. Elizabeth Britner had a match-high 12 digs. Sandra Hoevels finished with a match-high seven blocks.
Rightnowar was named the All-Tournament Team MVP, while Fuerst and Britner were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
The match opened with the two teams trading leads early. Trailing 19-14, the Mastodons began their comeback with a 6-1 run and tying the score 20-20. The 'Dons fought off a pair of RMU set points, before closing it out with four of the final five points. The Mastodons staged another comeback in the second set. Down 21-16, the Mastodons used a 6-1 run to tie it 22-22, and then score three of the next four points to win it.
The 'Dons took an early 2-1 lead in the third, but the Colonials scored the next three points to take the lead for good. The Mastodons one again put on their comeback shoes in the fourth. Trailing 9-8, the 'Dons used a 6-1 run as the comeback was on. The Mastodons closed out the frame with a 9-2 advantage to take the match.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns home to host its final non-league match when it takes on Valparaiso Tuesday, September 18 at 6 p.m.
