Omaha Takes Summit League Opener From Men’s Soccer 4-1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer fell 4-1 to Omaha on Saturday (Sept. 29) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex in the Summit League opener for the Mastodons.
Omaha led at the half 2-0 thanks to goals by Diego Gutierez in the 24th and 40th minutes. Marco Bautista assisted on the second goal.
The Mavericks added to their 2-0 lead two minutes into the second half. This time Gutierrez assisted on Martin Veys' tally. Bautista put Omaha up 4-0 on a goal in the 63rd minute. Denzel Woods assisted on the goal.
The 'Dons got on the board in the 67th minute. Matthew Lieshout scored his ninth goal of the season. This time it was on a penalty kick. Lieshout is second in the Summit League and number five in the nation for goals.
Omaha held a 14-10 edge in shots.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 6-4-0 (0-1-0). Omaha moves to 2-5-0 (1-1-0 Summit). The 'Dons are back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 2) in a non-league game at Detroit Mercy.
