‘Dons Heat Up Gates Center In 102-71 Romp Of South Dakota

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – John Konchar totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and no turnovers in Purdue Fort Wayne's 102-71 Summit League victory over South Dakota on Wednesday (Jan. 30) evening at the Gates Sports Center.
The Mastodons led by as many 43 points in win. The 'Dons shot 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the floor while limiting the Coyotes to 37.7 percent (23-of-62) shooting. The Coyotes made only 3-of-19 attempts from beyond the arc. They did the majority of the work at the free throw line, connecting on 22-of-25. Stanley Umude had 33 points for South Dakota.
The 'Dons grabbed an early lead in the game thanks to Matt Holba's 15 first half points. Holba finished with 20 points for his second straight game of 20 or more points. Thanks to his 4-of-7 performance beyond the arc on Wednesday, he has now made 10 of his last 14 3-point attempts. The 'Dons are now 8-0 when Holba scores 13 or more points.
Konchar totaled his 44th career double-double thanks to a 9-of-12 performance from the floor in 28 minutes. Kason Harrell added 18 points. Dee Montgomery pitched in 12 points.
The 'Dons turned the ball over only seven times on Wednesday. Over the last 80 minutes of basketball the Mastodons have only 13 turnovers.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 14-10 (6-3 Summit League). The Coyotes fall to 9-13 (3-6 Summit League). The 'Dons hit the road on Saturday to play at Oral Roberts.
