KETTERING, Ohio - Kasey Lilly had a Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf first on Monday (Oct. 14) at the Dayton Flyer Invitational: he is the first Mastodon to have an eagle and an albatross (double-eagle) on the same day.
Lilly ended his day in a tie for 34th with an 82-70-152, but his rounds were quite unique. He was one of only two players in the field of 77 golfers to have an eagle, which came on hole 10. After making the transition to his second 18, he nailed his second shot on the 560 yard par-five sixth for the only double-eagle in the field. He had eight pars on the back nine of the second round, concluding his second 18 with a 70 (-1).
Burke Pitz was second for the Mastodons, tying for 53rd with a 78-78-156, his birdies on 11 and 13 in the second round paced his day. Callahan Elzey was one stroke back of Pitz at 81-76-157. He had birdies on holes five and 10. One more back was Eric Brinker, who carded a 79-79-158 for a 63rd-place day. He finished with four birdies.
Logan Anderson brought in an 80-81-161 for a tie for 68th. He had a pair of birdies for his day. Parker Deakyne played as an individual, carding a 91-79-170. He birdied 18 on his first go-around.
Wright State is leading the pack as a team with a 292-286-578 (+10). Raider Bryce Haney is leading the field with a 72-69-141 (-1).
The Mastodons will play the third and final round of the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Tuesday (Oct. 15).
