Mastodons Travel to North Dakota State and South Dakota State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mastodons will face off against North Dakota State on Friday (Oct. 18) at 8 p.m. and South Dakota State on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m. for a pair of Summit League matchups.

Scouting the Mastodons (4-7-2, 0-3-0 Summit League)
The Mastodons are still looking for their first Summit League win as they head to the Dakotas this weekend. Purdue Fort Wayne fell to North Dakota 1-0 on Thursday (Oct. 10) and South Dakota 1-0 on Sunday (Oct. 13). Lorah Pund totaled a career-high 13 saves against the Fighting Hawks and is ranked third in the league in saves (64). Kayla Wisniewski is also ranked third in the Summit League for total shots with 34 and has racked up 19 shots on goal for the season.
Scouting the Bison (6-5-2, 1-1-1 Summit League)
North Dakota State is coming into match play after a double overtime 1-1 draw against Oral Roberts. Nicky De Pape scored for the Bison in the first half (43:40) and was assisted by Paige Goaley. The Bison were able to outshoot the Golden Eagles 20-14. North Dakota State fell 1-0 to Omaha a few days earlier.
Scouting the Jackrabbits (11-3-0, 3-0-0 Summit League)
South Dakota State is first in the Summit League standings after three shutout wins against North Dakota (3-0), Oral Roberts (1-0) and Omaha (2-0). The Jackrabbits faced off against Omaha on October 13 in which Maya Hansen and Eden Brooker scored in the first 30 minutes of the game. Goalkeeper Maggie Smither has recorded 10 out of the 11 shutouts thus far and has tallied 62 saves.
What Happened Last Time?
The Mastodons and North Dakota State met in Fort Wayne in 2018 where the Bison took home a 5-1 win. Breanna Buche scored her first goal of the year for the Mastodons in the 32nd minute on a blast from outside the 18, sent from Cesiley LaCourt and Kailyn Wade on the Mastodons' half of the field. In 2018, the Mastodons fell to South Dakota State 2-1. Kayla Wisniewski scored her sixth goal of the year, which moved her into the seventh all-time in goals in a single season. Wisniewski's goal was assisted by Hannah Kroger, who tallied her fifth assist of the year, moving her into the third place spot in the all-time records for assists in a single season.
For Starters
Purdue Fort Wayne had its best start to a season through 10 games in program history with a 4-4-2 record in nonconference play. The stretch included a six-match unbeaten streak. The 'Dons topped Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso and Detroit Mercy. All of those matches were shutouts. The Mastodons had their first draw of the season against Robert Morris on August 25 with each team netting one. They also tied Southern Illinois with one goal on either side.

Goalkeeper Lorah Pund has collected four shutouts this season. Her first came against Chicago State in the Windy City, helping the 'Dons walk away with a 1-0 win. She also kept Eastern Illinois scoreless in another 1-0 win. Pund collected a 2-0 shutout win against Valparaiso, and most recently kept Detroit Mercy scoreless with a 2-0 clean sheet. Pund has recorded 64 saves so far this season.

The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team received the United Soccer Coaches Academic Award for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Mastodons had a cumulative team GPA of 3.63. This is the eighth year in a row that women's soccer has received the Coaches Academic Award.
