Women's Soccer Heads to Denver for Final Summit League Road Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mastodons will head off for their final Summit League road match against the Denver Pioneers on Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

Scouting the Mastodons (4-8-3, 0-4-1 Summit League)
The 'Dons fell to South Dakota State 3-0 and tied North Dakota State 0-0 (2OT) last weekend. It was Purdue Fort Wayne's first positive result in Fargo in eight tries. Kayla Wisniewski is ranked third in the league for total shots with 41 and Lorah Pund is second in the league for saves with 82.
Scouting the Pioneers (8-4-3, 4-0-1 Summit League)
Denver is coming into the match on a seven-game unbeaten streak. The Pioneers have had shutout wins against South Dakota (1-0), Omaha (2-0), Western Illinois (3-0), Cal State Northridge (1-0), Kent State (1-0), Texas (3-0) and Drake (2-0). Most recently, Denver has defeated Summit League opponent, North Dakota, 7-0 on Thursday (Oct. 24). Sami Feller and Sydney Sharp scored two goals apiece for the Pioneers.
What Happened Last Time?
The Mastodons and Pioneers faced off on October 11, 2018 at the Hefner Soccer Complex in Fort Wayne. Denver took home the win after a 3-1 score. The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead into halftime after a goal from Meg Halverson in the 18th minute. She took her corner kick and coasted it directly into the goal from the corner. The Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 with goals from Halverson and Leah Swander. Purdue Fort Wayne scored in minute 57 on Deanna Hecht's fourth goal of the year. She ripped in a shot from outside the 18 off a free kick from Kendall Quinn at the top of the box.

Purdue Fort Wayne had its best start to a season through 10 games in program history with a 4-4-2 record in nonconference play. The stretch included a six-match unbeaten streak. The 'Dons topped Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso and Detroit Mercy. All of those matches were shutouts. Pund has recorded 82 saves so far this season.

The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team received the United Soccer Coaches Academic Award for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Mastodons had a cumulative team GPA of 3.63. This is the eighth year in a row that women's soccer has received the Coaches Academic Award.
