Mastodons Fall In Non-League Game at UIC
12/7/2019 6:17:00 PM | Men's Basketball
CHICAGO - Jarred Godfrey contributed 15 points and Deonte Billups added 11 but the Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball team saw their four-game win streak snapped after a 62-49 loss at UIC on Saturday (Dec. 7) afternoon.
The Mastodons were cold from the floor in the first half and it ultimately contributed to a deficit the 'Dons could not erase. Purdue Fort Wayne went to the break down 30-14 after shooting 5-of-26 from the floor in the first. It marked the fewest points for the Mastodons in a first half since scoring 14 against Xavier in 2008.
After UIC took a lead as large as 21 early in the second half, the Mastodons' offensive fortunes changed. A 12-0 run over four minutes put the Mastodons right back in the contest with eight minutes left. While Purdue Fort Wayne would get within seven points on multiple occasions, they would get no closer despite out-scoring the Flames in the second 35-32.
Purdue Fort Wayne held a 23-2 advantage in bench points in the contest. Billups scored his 11 points thanks to a career-best 3-of-6 performance from beyond the arc. He also had a career-high seven rebounds. DeMierre Black pitched in eight points.
UIC's Michael Diggins had a game-high 25 points.
UIC improves to 4-6. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 6-6. The 'Dons welcome Judson to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday (Dec. 10). It will be a 7 p.m. tip.
