No. 7 Loyola Chicago Takes Down No. 15 Purdue Fort Wayne in Four Sets

CHICAGO - After a promising opening set, No. 15 Purdue Fort Wayne ran out of gas against No. 7 Loyola Chicago in a four-set loss (20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13) in the Gentile Arena.
The Mastodons hit .524 in the first set with only one error, with Pelegrin Vargas notching five of his team-high 13 kills. The 'Dons went on a run just before the media timeout to go up 15-13 and did not give up the lead the rest of the way. The 'Dons used four straight points to go up 23-18 and put the frame out of reach, despite Loyola hitting .393.
The Ramblers' offense did not slow down the rest of the night, however, as they finished the match with a .404 hitting clip. The Ramblers used a 7-0 run to take the second and a 6-1 push in the third. The fourth was all Loyola, as the Ramblers hit .600 as a team.
Alex Dickmann came off the bench to record eight kills on a .636 clip, while Tomas Gago notched seven kills with a .455 rate. Kolbie Knorr recorded 10 digs, the team's season-high in four-set matches.
The Mastodons fall to 8-6, 2-1 MIVA and Loyola stays atop the conference at 10-3, 3-0. The 'Dons face off against the other team at the top of the MIVA in Lewis (10-4, 3-0) tomorrow (Feb. 16).
