Sanders and Young Each Earn a Double Double in Road Loss

OMAHA, Neb. - De'Jour Young and Sh'Toya Sanders each collected a double-double for the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team, but the Mastodons were unable to hang on as they fell at Omaha 70-61, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 16).
Sanders earned her second career double-double as a Mastodon, finishing with a team-high 12 rebounds, to go along with 10 points and five blocks. Young earned her seventh career double-double, and third of the season, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The duo are the first pair of Mastodons to earn a double-double in a game since Amanda Hyde and Stefanie Mauk did so at North Dakota State on Jan. 6, 2014.
Hannah Albrecht led all players with 21 points. Kierstyn Repp also finished in double-figures with 10 points.
After Omaha held the lead through most of the first quarter, the Mastodons battled back in the second. The 'Dons used a 10-2 run to take a six-point lead, helping the Mastodons carry a 28-27 lead into halftime. Omaha used a 10-2 run of its own in the third quarter to regain the lead. The 'Dons made a run to cut the deficit to two, 54-52, with 6:15 to go in the game, but the Mastodons were unable to pull even down the stretch.
For the game, the 'Dons shot 35.4% (23-of-65) from the floor, 6-of-20 (30%) beyond the arc, and 9-of-13 (69.2%) at the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne wraps up its road trip when the Mastodons travel to South Dakota State on Wednesday, February 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
