FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped its Summit League series finale against North Dakota State 7-0 Sunday afternoon (March 24).
Morganne Denny had a game-high two hits to lead the 'Dons. Lauren Watson, Alise Hale, Rachel Everson, and Brooke Imel each had a hit in the game.
Starting pitcher Lauren McConnell held the defending Summit League champions off the scoreboard until the fourth inning. She also limited them to only one hit in an inning until the seventh. In the complete game loss, McConnell scattered eight hits while allowing only two earned runs while striking out three Bison.
NDSU scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings, before adding five runs in the seventh.
The Mastodons had at least one runner on in five innings, with their best chances coming in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Ashley Hass led off the inning with a walk, and after a sacrifice bunt, an NDSU error put runners on the corners. But after a stolen base, the Bison were able to turn a double play to end the inning.
The sixth saw Hale lead off with a single up the middle. One out later, Denny singled to right to put runners on first and second, before the next two outs were recorded.
Purdue Fort Wayne hosts Bowling Green for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 27 beginning at 3 p.m.
