Purdue Fort Wayne’s Emma Rafuse to Compete In NCAA Preliminary

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Purdue Fort Wayne's Emma Rafuse has qualified for a pair of events in the 2019 NCAA Women's Track and Field East Preliminary May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Rafuse will compete in the 10K and the 5K. Her 10K time of 34:34.93 at the Raleigh Relays on March 29 ranks 45th in the East Region. Rafuse's 5K time of 16:25.52 on April 25 at the Hillsdale Gina Relays ranks 42nd in the East Region.
12 competitors from each individual event in Jacksonville will advance to the National Championships June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
Rafuse is the fifth woman in program history to qualify for NCAA regionals. Theresa McHugh (javelin) and Rachel Dincoff (shotput) competed in 2013. Crystal Martinez ran in the 3000-meter steeple chase in 2009 and 2008. Crystina Martinez ran the 3000-meter steeple in 2008.
