
Nate Wilson Joins Mastodon T&F as Assistant Coach

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Nate Wilson has joined the Purdue Fort Wayne track and field program as an assistant coach after spending the previous three seasons at Indiana University East, where he coached the sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps.
"Coach Wilson brings a proven record of developing conference champions, record-setting athletes, and championship-caliber teams," Mastodon Track & Field and Cross Country Director Aaron Combs said. "His expertise in the sprint, hurdle, relay and jump events, along with his experience as both a Division I and Division II student-athlete, will be a tremendous asset as we work to build one of the Horizon League's top track & field programs."
During his time at IU East, Wilson helped guide the NAIA Red Wolves to unprecedented success, including a 2026 River States Conference Women's Outdoor Championship, the first outdoor conference title in program history. His event groups accounted for more than 130 team points, and he coached the first women's track & field national qualifier in school history in the 400 meter hurdles.
Wilson also helped lead the IU East women to the 2026 league indoor title, the first indoor conference title in program history. His sprints and jumps athletes contributed 110 of the team's 174 points at the conference championships.
In addition to the women's championships, Wilson helped the men finish second in the 2026 indoor and outdoor seasons at the league meets.
Over his three seasons at IU East, student-athletes under Wilson's guidance achieved:
At NCAA Division II Tiffin University, he was an eight-time conference point scorer during his three-year undergraduate career, earning points in the hurdles and the 4×400-meter relay while contributing to the program's conference success. Wilson later continued his collegiate career at Oakland University, where he competed in the Horizon League while pursuing his graduate degree. He finished as the Horizon League runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles and was a member of Oakland's 4×100-meter relay team.
