FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Alex Carradine has been named Purdue University Fort Wayne Cross Country/Track and Field Director, Mastodon Athletic Director Kelley Hartley Hutton announced on Tuesday (August 13).
"The cross country and track and field programs have already seen impressive growth and Alex has been a big part of that success," Hartley Hutton said. "He has the vision and experience required to continue that growth. I'm excited to watch the program take the next steps under his leadership."
Carradine joined the Mastodons as an assistant in 2018. He was crucial to the resumption of men's track and field in 2019-20, helping recruit 27 student-athletes to the men's track and field roster. The women's program saw tremendous growth on the track. The Mastodon women broke 11 school records and rewrote the books with 21 all-time top-10 performances. In addition to this athletic success, 20 women will be joining the cross country and track teams this fall.
"I would like to thank Kelley Hartley Hutton and the entire administration for believing in this staff and giving me the opportunity to lead our men's and women's teams," Carradine said. "Purdue University Fort Wayne is a great institution that is committed to academic and athletic excellence for all student-athletes. I could not be more excited to continue working toward the mission of building successful cross country and track programs."
Carradine will oversee both the track and field and cross country programs.
Prior to Purdue Fort Wayne, Carradine spent three years at the University of North Carolina Wilmington where he worked with the jumps and multi-event student-athletes. While with the Seahawks, he coached one NCAA East Preliminary Round qualifier, one Colonial Athletic Association Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, six CAA individual champions, 17 All-CAA individual track & field performances, and 25 UNCW all-time top-10 performances.
Carradine competed in the long jump and high jump at UNCW for four seasons before earning his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science in May of 2011. He moved on to Texas A&M, where he served as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach for the Aggies and completed his Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology in College Station in 2013. Carradine then accepted his first full-time coaching position as assistant women's track and field coach at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. He coached two NCAA Division II All-Americans and eight All-Midwest Region honorees.
