'Dons Finish 12th at Golfweek Program Championship

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team finished 12th at the Golfweek Program Championship on Tuesday (Sept. 10) with a team score of 858. Callahan Elzey led the way for the Mastodons with a 212 (+2).
After going even after the first two rounds, Elzey shot a 72 in round three. He started his day on hole 10, and birdied the par-five. A pair of birdies on the par-four first and par-five eighth after making the turn yielded him a tie for 22nd place. Cody White was just one shot back of Elzey, and shot a 72 on Tuesday as well. He also started on 10, and got back-to-back birdies on the par-four 12th and 13th. He also shot a three on one after making the turn. White finished with a 213 in 26th place. Eric Brinker was the third Mastodon to shoot a 72 in round three, as he brought in a deuce on 11 and a birdie three on five and 13.
Jacob Deakyne shot a 76 on his final day, carding a two on three and six. He finished with a 223 and a tie for 62nd place. His brother, Parker Deakyne, carded a 69 with four birdies on day two: a four on eight and threes on 13, 16 and 18. Parker shot 233 for the tournament, ending in 81st place.
Jacksonville won the tournament as a team with an 828 (-12). The individual winner was Segundo Oliva Pinto of UNC Wilmington with a 192 (-12), but he played unattached from his team.
The Mastodons are back in action on Monday (Sept. 16) when they travel to the Crusader Collegiate in Valparaiso.
